What will you learn?

You will learn how to offer support to people from varied backgrounds and how to assist those who may have mental health issues. There will be advice on skills and techniques which you can implement to promote recovery and well being. You will further develop your skills on health and safety and decision making.

What is the Diploma of Mental Health?

The Diploma of Mental Health is a nationally-recognised qualification that equips workers with the skills and knowledge to provide support to people with mental illness. The diploma covers a range of topics, including mental health assessment, counselling, referral and crisis intervention.

What are the entry requirements for the Diploma?

To be eligible for the diploma of mental health, you will need to be an Australian Citizen or Permanent Resident; be at least 18 years of age; have completed Year 12 or equivalent or an AQF Certificate IV in Mental Health; and pass an online LLN assessment test. You will also need to have – or obtain – a current Working with Children check and Police check.

What courses will be included in the Diploma of Mental Health?

Your course covers advocacy, working with diverse and Indigenous communities, and establishing recovery-focused relationships. You will learn to offer recovery-oriented services, manage cases involving both mental health and substance use, and implement early interventions. Training includes assessing clients' overall wellbeing, creating personalised wellness plans, and applying trauma-informed care. Additionally, students will gain skills in research, evidence-based practice, and professional development. The program emphasises workplace safety, crisis response, stress management, and building effective community networks, preparing students for impactful roles in mental health support.

How long will it take to complete the Diploma?

The Diploma of Mental Health can be completed in 12 months part-time, depending on your study schedule.
