What will you learn?
You will learn the principles of recovery-oriented practice, communication techniques to build and maintain relationships, and you will learn how to support people with co-existing mental health and other issues. There will be advice on skills and techniques which you can implement to promote recovery and well-being. To achieve this qualification, you will also need to complete 80 hours of work placement experience which will be at a suitable approved facility.

The Certificate IV in Mental Health is a nationally recognised qualification that will provide you with the skills and knowledge to help those who face mental health challenges.
To be eligible for the Certificate IV in Mental Health, you will need to be an Australian Citizen or Permanent Resident; be at least 18 years of age; have completed Year 12 or equivalent; and pass an online LLN assessment test. You will also need to have – or obtain – a current Working with Children check and Police check.
Your course will cover a variety of courses designed to build essential skills for working in mental health and community services. These include courses on working with diverse populations, promoting cultural safety, and adhering to legal and ethical standards. You will also learn to establish self-directed recovery relationships, support trauma-informed care, and assist individuals with both mental health and substance use challenges. Other courses focus on promoting self-advocacy, ensuring workplace safety, responding to crises, and building effective communication skills. Additionally, you will explore ways to reflect on and improve their professional practice.
The Certificate IV can be completed in 12 months part-time, depending on your study schedule.
